Pros

  • HD movies play fine on most devices.

Cons

  • Very simplistic design that lacks common customization features.
  • Can't play audio files.

HD Video Player is an application that lets you see videos on your Android smartphone or tablet. It supports nearly all video formats, including MP4, AVI, FLV, WMV and MKV. If you found a video available for download online, this player will very likely be able to open it, even if the format isn't supported by other media player applications.

The interface is very simple and doesn't have any confusing elements, making HD Video Player an app to consider for those who just want a player that works. In playback mode, it lets you lock the screen and gives you the option to show the time and battery level even when you play a video in fullscreen mode. The app is free to use and occasionally displays ads if you use it while an Internet connection is available. There's an included video library function. You can use it to see the videos you've recently watched and manage the movie files on your device.

There haven't been too many bugs, stability issues or playback problems reported with it. The player handles larger video files, such as full length HD movies, quite well on newer Android devices. Issues like display glitches, skipped frames or choppy playback are rare, unless you have too many other apps running in the background that leave the player without enough RAM and CPU power to decode the video file.

While HD Video Player doesn't have major downsides, it isn't the most impressive app in its category either. The more advanced playback settings that videophiles often use are completely absent. It only plays videos and can't open any audio files, not even simple MP3s. This is quite disappointing, as the majority of competing media players can do so with ease, even those released over 5 years ago.
